About Me:

My name is Cryss. I'm from Lititz, Pennsylvania.

I am an amateur animal photographer. Animals are my life, I spend all my time around them. I am a licensed falconer and I help my boyfriend do educational bird of prey and falconry shows at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and The Castle of Muskogee in Oklahoma.

I am mainly a photographer. I have spent most of my time lately trying to improve. Most of my photos are of animals, especially birds of prey. I have a Canon 50D, a 55-250mm lens, and a 100-400mm lens.

I also occasionally draw and paint with watercolors, but I haven't been doing a whole lot beside photography lately.

You sure have a cool job :). I thought about trying one of those bootcamp/training intros to Falconry or to volunteer/work maybe around the grounds to get a feel for things, but it was in a town I wasn't happy staying in any longer---too bad it is tough to find anything where I am now aside the odd demo given by the same group. I am a bit paranoid though of having my eyes poked, haha. Do you ever feel need to wear eye protection?

Thank you, it's pretty awesome. It can be tough getting into working with birds like this. No, I usually feel pretty safe. My hands are usually what the birds go after, but they rarely go after me at all.

I guess I don't figure they would go out of their way to attack...I just have a thing about really anything poking my face lol---often by mistakes or the absence of thinking about how they affect others nearby--like a dog's tail whip or maybe the bird's wing or a poor flight landing. I love horses as well and wished I was 100% comfortable around them...but I think maybe just not growing up around say....a huge, powerful animal would make it logical to fear them---also because they can be unpredictable and easily frightened, and I am easily frightened also, so....I kind of fear feeding their insecurities and it sort of makes you feel like "boo, I could never be a true horse rider...I am too weak and they know it".

You do have to be careful around them, that's for sure. If you are uncomfortable or nervous, most animals will pick up on that. It's definitely not something you want when you are working with a predator :p
